Pinchas 2024

Pinchas/Phinehas, Numbers 25:10-30:1, follows directly on the heels of Israel’s rebellion with Baal Peor, the Midianites, and the Moabites.  Named after Pinchas, who alone chooses to deal swiftly and decisively with the rebellion and in turn is granted with what is termed a “covenant of peace” and promised an everlasting priesthood.  When looking at the timing and the setting, it is important to note that Israel is encamped at the boundary line of their Promise and inheritance!  It is the 42nd and final stop of Israel’s Exodus journey.  Here the last vestiges of “Egypt” must be removed for them to step into the land of Promise as living mature sons and daughters.  Could this be where we find ourselves today as well?
