Shoftim 2023
David Mathews
This Parsha is extremely significant to our day by reason of, its’ title ‘Shoftim’ – translated as ‘Judges’. It lays the fundamental groundwork for how the Nation of Israel was to govern itself. In addition, these Laws became the bedrock for what is known today as “COMMON LAW”. Common Law is defined as ‘a body of unwritten laws based on previous court decisions’ also known as precedent and is separate from Codes and Statutes, i.e. Civil law! Moreover, the vast majority of the Body of National and International Common Laws were indeed predicated upon these Biblical Standards being discussed here in Shoftim!
